Oct 18, 2008 LOV Chapter Fall Woodlot Tour Dunrobin, Ontario 0900 The woodlot of Randy Goodfellow, 2005 6th Line Rd., Dunrobin 1045 The woodlot of Brian Baker, 830 Berry Side Rd., Dunrobin Randy has a mainly hardwood bush with a major component of maple. There is also a wide variety of species including the species at risk, butternut. Rose Fleguel, a species at risk specialist from the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority will be present to help Randy lead the tour, and explain about conservation efforts for butternut which is threatened by an introduced fungal canker disease. Brian has a mixed wood bush and adjacent wetlands that features a high degree of species diversity. The tour will have a number of stops illustrating this diversity and Brian’s efforts to nurture the better quality trees and to protect young growing stock from ravenous deer. Both Randy and Brian are board members of the Eastern Ontario Certified Forest Owners. They will be able to expound upon and answer questions about sustainable forest management. Directions from Ottawa to Randy’s woodlot: Take hwy 417 west to the Eagleson Road Exit, turning right onto March Road. Proceed through Kanata, and beyond (approximately 8 km), taking a right hand turn at the traffic light at Dunrobin Road (as March Road is making a sweeping left hand turn). Turn at first intersection (almost immediately) onto Riddel Drive. Proceed to the end, turning left onto the 6th Line. Proceed to number 2005. Directions from the west of Ottawa: If from the Perth area, take 417 east until the Eagleson Road Exit and turn left, proceeding onto March Road and proceed as above. If from the Almonte area, head east on County Road 49 (March Road). Proceed over the 417, past the intersection to Carp, proceeding until the Dunrobin Road intersection where you turn left. Then proceed as above. From Arnprior, head towards Ottawa on the 417, taking the exit for County Road 49. Turn left to head east on the County Road 49. Then proceed as above. Directions from Randy’s Woodlot to Brian’s woodlot: From Randy’s lane go left on the 6th Line to the first intersection - turn left on Berry Side Road. Cross the 5th Line and proceed 1 km to #830.
